Description

Running for some 275 miles before emptying into Pamlico Sound, the Neuse River is the longest river entirely contained in North Carolina. There's plenty of beautiful scenery right the way along the river's course, but some of the best can be found just outside Seven Springs at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.

This 1,094-acre park sits on the Neuse's southern banks, where towering cliffs overlook the water below. There are five hiking trails that wind their way through the park, leading you on a peaceful stroll along the river to quiet fishing spots, or giving you a chance to immerse yourself in mature forests of oaks, dogwoods, and Spanish moss. If you feel like casting a line, the river and its tributaries boast bluegill, largemouth bass, and catfish.

Many of the other recreational activities in Cliffs of the Neuse State Park center on an 11-acre man-made lake. With a grassy and sandy beach, this lake is the perfect spot for a cooling swim in the summer months. A diving platform, roped-off perimeter, and bathhouse headline the list of facilities, while boats are also available for rent for those who'd prefer to stay dry.

If you're staying the night, the Cliffs of the Neuse family campground boasts 30 pet-friendly sites in a wooded location, 12 of which have electrical hookups. Camper cabins are also provided but do not permit pets. Daily rates start at $22.

If you're camping with your canine pal, take care to ensure that you abide by all the park's rules surrounding pets. These include remembering to clean up after your pet whenever necessary and keeping them on a leash of six feet or shorter at all times.

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is a scenic park with plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation on offer. If you get the chance to camp here with your furry friend, you and your pooch will love every second.
