Description
Nestled in rolling hills approximately 30 miles southwest of Madison, Wisconsin, New Glarus Woods State Park provides the pawfect opportunity to get back to nature and enjoy a host of outdoor recreational activities. If you're planning a pet-friendly camping vacation in Wisconsin, this beautiful park is well worth checking out.

Covering 435 acres of pristine terrain, the park is perhaps most possible during fall as visitors flock to the region to take in the spectacular fall foliage. New Glarus Woods is home to eight miles of hiking trails to help you take in the vibrant colors up close, including 5.5 miles of self-guided nature trails with outdoor interpretive panels and a dedicated guidebook.

You can also use the park to access The Sugar River State Trail, a 24-mile trail of compressed limestone screenings. Hikers, cyclists, and snowmobile riders are all more than welcome to tackle the trail, while those looking to stop for lunch can sit down for a bite to eat at the state park's picnic area with cooking grills and picnic tables.

The New Glarus Woods State Park campground is closed during the winter months but is a popular destination at other times of the year. It features 18 drive-in campsites for tents and small RVs, plus 14 walk-in campsites for tents only.

Amenities and facilities provided are quite primitive, so unless you like "ruffing" it, this isn't the campground for you. However, dogs are permitted in the park and the campground, so you can enjoy a relaxing vacation with your canine companion by your side.

As always, you'll need to take care to abide by all park rules and regulations concerning pets. These include keeping your dog on a leash no longer than six feet, and cleaning up after your dog whenever necessary.

If you can take care of these simple responsibilities, you and your dog can enjoy a memorable camping vacation in this truly beautiful part of the country.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
