Description

Combining fascinating history with uniquely beautiful terrain, Wisconsin's Roche-A-Cri State Park offers a memorable camping experience for dog lovers and their furry friends. Located to the north of Adams and Friendship in central Wisconsin, it's a park that's well worth a visit for a weekend or longer.

The park's unique name is actually taken from the French for "crevice in the rock", which is a reference to the imposing 300-foot-high rock outcropping that dominates the terrain. There are more than five miles of trails to hike in the park, but the highlight is the climb up the stairway to the top of the Roche-A-Cri mound.

Another unique feature of Roche-A-Cri State Park is that it's also home to the only interpreted rock art site in the state. Located west of the office on the main park road, the site features an accessible ramp and observation deck to allow all visitors to view the petroglyphs and pictographs.

The family campground in Roche-A-Cri State Park is open from late spring to early fall. It boasts four electric sites, two walk-in tent sites, one tent-only campsite, and 33 rustic camping sites that suit trailers or tents. But the best feature of all about the campground is that it welcomes pets, so your dog can join you on your weekend getaway or vacation. However, only some of the electric sites are pet-friendly, so call ahead to double-check before booking your spot.

Vehicle admission to the park costs $8 for cars with Wisconsin plates, or $11 for out-of-state visitors. Camping fees vary depending on the type of site you select.

If you're visiting with your pet, your furry friend will need to be on a leash of six feet or shorter at all times, and must always be under your control. Pets are not allowed on the stairway to the summit of the Roche-A-Cri mound, and you'll need to ensure that you always dispose of your dog's waste responsibly.

If you follow these simple guidelines and show respect to other park users, you and your four-legged friend can create some lasting vacation memories in this beautiful state park!
