Taconic State Park (Rudd Pond Area)

Taconic State Park is a big and beautiful New York state park that runs for 16 miles along the Taconic Mountain Range. In total, it covers more than 6,000 acres of forested land that borders both Massachusetts and Connecticut. The park offers two developed areas -- Rudd Pond and Copake Falls -- and a $7 park entry fee applies.

The Rudd Pond area of Taconic State Park is found in Millerton and offers a long list of recreational activities. For many, the highlight of a visit to the park is boating on Rudd Pond, the 64-acre pond which is always popular with families. While motorized boats aren't permitted, you can hire rowboats and canoes to help you get out on the water.

Anglers can target bass, sunfish, and pickerel in the pond's waters, while swimming is also offered during summer. When the cooler weather arrives, ice skating and ice fishing take center stage if conditions permit. Add in an extensive network of hiking trails, with walks ranging from easy through to challenging, and you've got a state park that offers something for just about everyone!

The Rudd Pond campground features 15 tent sites and 26 tent platform sites, each of which offers lovely views of the pond, the surrounding countryside, and the mountain range. Each campsite has its own picnic table and fire ring, and pets are welcome on all sites. However, please note that a two-pet maximum applies.

Taconic State Park rules specify that dogs must be attended to and leashed, on a leash not more than 10 feet in length, at all times. Dogs are not permitted in buildings or in picnic and swimming areas, and you're also responsible for disposing of your pet's waste.
