Description

Taughannock Falls is a 215-foot waterfall northwest of Ithaca, New York. The highest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains, it's a magnificent sight to behold -- especially when in full flow.

However, the falls are also the site for the 750-acre Taughannock Falls State Park. If you want to experience the best views of the falls and also indulge in a host of other recreational activities, this park is the place to do it.

Visitors can explore several gorge and rim trails that offer breathtaking views from above and below the falls, so there are plenty of opportunities to snap the perfect photo. The park is also home to Cayuga Lake, a peaceful and scenic body of water that's ideal for a host of recreational activities. There's a marina, boat launch, and swimming beach available, while summer concerts are regularly held along the lakefront. A multi-use trail (perfect for hiking and cross-country skiing) also leads you past gentle sledding slopes and natural skating ponds.

An $8 vehicle entrance fee applies to get into Taughannock Falls State Park, with camping costs varying from $18 to $28 per night. There are 68 campsites and 16 cabins in scenic locations overlooking the lake, and pets are permitted on sites and in cabins, provided that you remember to follow all park rules and regulations.

This means your dog will need to be kept on a leash not more than six feet long and have proof of rabies vaccination. Dogs are not allowed in bathing areas, and a two-pet maximum applies to all campsites. Finally, make sure you always remember to clean up after your pet and properly dispose of their waste.

If you can take care of these simple yet vital responsibilities, there's nothing to stop you and your pooch enjoying a relaxing getaway in this beautiful state park!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
