North Fort Ward Park Off Leash Dog Area

The North Fort Ward off-leash dog area is run by the Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities. It is a part of Fort Ward Park’s historic location, which was actually built to help defend Washington DC during the Civil War. The re-enactment of everyday lives of former soldiers and civilians is one of the best features in the park, which visitors can take advantage of during each season.

The park itself is a great place to go running, go for a picnic or even go blackberry-picking in the summer. Preserving the history of the park is just as important as making the community feel as welcome as possible, which is why the off-leash dog area, located inside the park property, is always kept safe and in pristine condition for all owners and pets alike.

A walking trail loops the park surroundings, providing dogs and their owners with a chance to enjoy some physical exercise while socializing with other park visitors at the same time. Apart from the numerous benches and picnic tables available, North Fort Ward Park also offers plenty of shelters, parking areas, playgrounds, and restrooms.

The off-leash dog area is marked with bollards and Fido can also enjoy fresh water during the summer months. There is quite a bit of lush lawn for your furbaby to run around and play, as well as lots of shaded areas, provided by the large trees found inside the property.
