Description

In the neighborhood of Kessler, just a few minutes west of downtown Dallas, is the Coombs Creek Trail. This is the pawfect place to take a break from the bustling city life, and enjoy some greenery with your pooch. This trail is a great combination of convenience and natural beauty. Not only will you get to enjoy views of Coombs Creek and the Trinity River levee, but this trail also offers some of the best views of the Dallas city skyline.

This out-and-back trail starts at Stevens Park Golf Course, and continues to Kessler Park Parkway. At Stevens Park Golf Course, you’ll find some free parking, where you can unload your pupper and start your adventure. The trail starts off as paved, from the tennis courts in the golf course. Pedestrians and their pups are allowed to enjoy the golf paths in the golf course as well. There’s even a drinking fountain with a doggy water bowl located at North Plymouth Road and North Oak Cliff Boulevard.

From here, you can continue north from the tennis courts towards Kessler Parkway Park. This portion of the trail follows alongside the scenic Kessler Parkway, which is lined with beautiful homes, wildflowers, and large pecan and oak trees. The Coombs Creek stays on the west side of the trail for the entire length. Although this trail is not overly busy, you’re likely to run into some joggers, bikers, and other dog walkers.

After about 1.5 miles from the golf course, after you’ve entered Kessler Parkway Park, the paved pathway turns into a soft surface trail. It continues for ruffly another half mile to the levee, and the best views of downtown Dallas. The Kessler Parkway Park also has free parking, and tall trees, open grassy areas. Be sure to bring water and clean up bags for the journey.

Taking a stroll down Coombs Creek Trail is a great way to get a taste of wilderness in the city. It’s sure to get your pup’s tail wagging!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
A word of warning, this trail is said to be haunted! Whether you believe it or not, never travel alone here after dark. Some portions of the trail are near busy streets, so always keep your pupper leashed for his or her own safety.
