Doberman Shepherd

This is not my first dog, but she is incredibly special. She learns quickly, is incredibly affectionate, is incredibly intent on pleasing you, but can be very nosey, curious and alert. My girl doesn't like other guys (I'm a guy), but loves most girls (she's my potential girlfriend detector, lol). She will take point if allowed but prefers to walk next to you rather than behind. Definitely a velcro dog...if you're walking she will stay within sight and refuses to be left behind. Can be prey-driven (loves squirrels/birds/etc), but is getting better with training. Best dog ever (sorry Toby...for different reasons).

I was a little nervous about getting a hybrid of 2 breeds with negative stigmas attached to them, considering that I had never cared for a German Shepherd or Doberman before. I'd helped to raise a puppy before and her separation anxiety was so bad, that it left me a little jaded to getting a puppy. Nevertheless, we got our doberman-shepherd when she was only 5 weeks old. She was still drinking milk at the time. We started crate training her Night One, and since then, she hasn't had any issues with sleeping or playing in her crate. The rate at which she grows and the rate at which she learns astounds me. We have to take her on at least 2 walks per day, as her energy increases rapidly. We don't mind it, though; we need to exercise, too! Raising a puppy is hard work, but seeing a return on the effort my husband and I are putting in makes it all worth it.

Brutus is an extremely intelligent guy. He’s received a good amount of training and it was suggested by the trainers that I get him into Schutzhund or protection work because his drive and trainability are through the roof. He wants to fetch all day everyday. I have to take all toys away when I want to be done and then he starts searching for balled up socks or anything else he can drop at my feet to throw for him. He was socialized extensively as a pup and is very friendly with people but he is NOT friendly with other dogs. He will bark, growl and would likely fight if I didn’t keep him close. He is also extremely prey-driven and will attempt to chase down any wildlife he sees. He’s a beautiful dog with an extremely athletic physique and I constantly have people stopping to ask me questions about him. Overall I couldn’t recommend the mix enough for anybody that likes to keep active with their dog and is setup to handle a powerful animal that may not be crazy about other dogs/critters.

We adopted a 2 year old 60lbs Doberman Shepherd named Roxy about 6 months ago (her brothers and sisters have a good 20lbs on her). She was someone else's pup before she was ours where they simply did not have the time or space for her. We were told she went away for a bit to get trained and she is extremely social with people and picky about other dogs. We used to think he didn't like small dogs, but now the little Maltese across the street is her BFF. She rarely barks, but when she does she means business. She mainly whines when she wants something from you :) Roxy requires a lot of work - she is incredibly smart and is always looking to work. We train her before eating mostly, but while out and about as well. She does have a heart condition called pulmonary stenosis so we watch how much we are pushing her when it comes to the outdoors. We take her out three times a day and usually no less than 30 min. She takes medicine twice a day with food to help maintain her condition. She has always been fed salmon, but not sure if she is allergic to chicken - her sisters and brothers are. Roxy has a bit of anxiety, but never separation anxiety which is lovely. She is very ball driven - we haven't met a dog faster than her yet so I'm not sure if being the first to the ball has anything to do with it. We groom her every week but still seems to shed a ton. She has medium length hair towards her tummy and back and shorter towards her neck. I recommend doing this outside so the hair doesn't get everywhere. Her ears are the biggest thing on her - we are constantly getting compliments on her shepherd ears that she never grew into - plus they stick straight up :)

He is a very energetic puppy He enjoys being outside. When it snowed he loved pkaying and jumping in it. He likes to play catch but does not like to give the ball back, he likes the kids to chase him for it. He loves chewing all his toys, and BED, and anything he finds. He also gets all the laundry from on top of the washer and dryer from the baskets to his bed. He is very playful and is learning commands. He enjoys being and playing with the children.

Midnight is a mix between a white German Shepherd and a mini Doberman Pinscher. She was very active and hyper as a pup, but in her old age has taken to relaxing more than running. I've had her since she was weaned and she is incredibly loyal and protective. When I first got her I was young and didn't know much about training dogs, so she tends to be apprehensive and slightly aggressive towards other dogs. She, however, loves people, especially children! She is a loving and sweet dog, but she definitely likes her space.

Zenzi is nothing but adorable. I found her through a website facilitating rehomes. The previous owners were clearly neglecting her. The day I picked her up she was 53lbs, and in the 7 weeks since she has reached 71lbs and is considered to be at her healthy weight according to the vet. She wasn’t socialized the best, clearly, as she doesn’t always know when her behavior is appropriate, but she’s so incredibly intelligent that she’s getting better with each situation every day and improving on that regard. She has a ton of energy but I have a relatively large yard on a corner that she loves to run around and play fetch in. She does well on her own for long periods of time when necessary and was easily house/crate trained. One of her favorite activities inside the house is to look out the windows and people watch. She doesn’t bark unless there’s another dog, but we have another dog in the home and they do great together. If you’re thinking about getting one, 10/10 recommend.

My girl has been amazing. We nipped her separation anxiety in the bud the first day (put her in bathroom and walked in and out when she was not barking...teaching her that she would get attention or be around people when she behaved). That took about a day. Crated her in a huge kennel until she got her bladder in check and only went potty when I gave her permission (about 6 months). Been a year since her last accident and she now has about a 12 hour bladder. She definitely needs her brushing as she frequently sheds (all the time). She can sleep all day when I am working and then be ready to go at the drop of a hat for a run, walk, bike ride, car ride, etc. She has been trained by me mostly and now she stays until I call her (mostly), won't eat food unless I hand it to her or put it in her dish, lets me know if she has to go potty, and can pretty much walk with me off leash without making a suicide run across the street. She does like to meet other dogs, which I'm trying to train out of her, but I made the mistake of letting her play with any dog and now she wants to play with any dog. Go figure. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing about her...especially since she is the final say on people I date. I ignored her opinion once and the stalker wouldn't leave me alone until Kensey changed her mind (she reached inside of car window without permission and almost got bitten, who woulda thought?). Totally wish I could clone her. lol.

I absolutely love the Doberman Shepherd! Great mix of traits from both breeds with a better coat for more mild weather. My little girl is bold yet listens very well, very fiery while still being very sweet.

Protective and loyal (no intruder-animals in our backyard!). Good with children. The best companion ever!

Very active but aggressive dog

Very loyal and loving to me and my wife. Very protective, even to the point of aggression towards any new faces in her territory or near family.

Friendly smart and destructive

I got Riley when he was 1 month old, since the beginning he follows me everywhere I go, even from room to room. He was easily trained on when to sit, he walks without leash (with me only, other people need a leash) he responds to my voice commands and sometimes my dad's too. Obedience was easy to teach and the only issue is his energy, making it a bit hard to behave around playful kids since he grew too fast and can't really control his size in small spaces and his sudden moves may scare people that don't know him. Showers are easy although he doesn't like to play with water, he gets easily sick if he eats things other than boiled chicken and his usual food. Protective of our family and household he barks at strangers but has only attacked once when he was younger and was not his fault. He stopped being destructive about a year ago, it was his way of showing he felt lonely but now he can stay indoors without any incident for more than 10 hours.

She is a great dog! She is supper affectionate. She loves plush toys and bones! She is very vocal! However she is scared of strangers and she barks at almost anything

She is a great dog. Personality shepard, markings doberman, shape is mixed; but "pretty dog" is the feedback.

Shes still young but it's been fun so far..

My doberman shepard is very hyper!! She actually has more doberman traits, she can be loving and sometimes she can get a little to excited and jump constantly on others.

Ivar is a perfect mix of the Doberman Pinscher and the German Shephard. He has the Shephard saddle markings, a black line down his face, a tan line down his nose and is built like the Doberman Pinscher with long legs and big chest. His coat colour is classic Doberman Pinscher and the length is medium. His ears like to stand up when he is paying attention, but look like Dobby the Elf when he is relaxed. Ivar has a very good temperament with family, people he knows, dogs he knows and animals he grew up with. He is fantastic with children and loves to play; however, he is quite anxious. He does bark at people walking by, birds, small outdoor animals and dogs he is unfamiliar with. He has not attacked anyone and has not bitten since I trained him out of his puppy mouthing stage. Because he is anxious walks are long and sometimes frustrating. He has a harness for tugging prevention and leash training has been a long process. In every other field, he is very intelligent and he picks up on commands extremely easily. I am able to let him off leash in quiet fields or parks and his attention is always on me. His recall is impeccable and I have no troubles getting him back on the leash. He does have troubles with food that isn't his regular dog food. He gets the runs quite easily and I have to test out treats and other foods before I can give it to him often. He does like to eat snap peas, oranges, apples and some other vegetables. Other than his anxieties, he is very lovely and enjoys cuddling and being around his family. He plays hide and seek with his human siblings, find-the-treat cup games, tag, fetch, tug-of-war and, especially, finding toy games. If you are looking to get a Doberman Shephard, be sure you are able to exercise them and train them daily, have plenty of thinking toys, have some games that use their finding and rescuing skills and are able to socialize them with everything you can think of as soon as you add them to your family. This will help them stay happy and keep their guarding instincts controlled. They will be way less anxious if anxious at all. This breed is an amazing family dog if you have the time and patience.

Easy to train, Distracts easily though especially when on a scent. Very affectionate, non aggressive, plays well with other dogs and kids. Excited and has to dominate ball games especially. Very fast. Unfortunately his size/look is totally misunderstood and most are intimidated by him, especially little dog owners even though he has never hurt another dog or human. Although when allowed to play with them, by nice owners, small aggressive dogs totally dominate him and surprises most.

She is very friendly, well maintained but a bit hyper at times, very active dog, not very territorial with food or toys.

I love Chef so much. I have two other dogs but Chef is my favorite. He is such a sweetheart. He is sensitive, friendly, intelligent, fit, and GREAT with small children. He always calms himself around smaller children. Chef is also very understanding, if we ask him to do something he understands immediately.. as if he is a human. Again let me tell you, chief is so intelligent. Which obviously comes from both breeds of his parents. So sometimes he tries to outsmart my family and I. He doesn’t do it very often though because he understands the human are the bosses, and bad behavior will be punished. Chef is very friendly but, if somethings off he’s NOT afraid to be PROTECTIVE over my family and I. Overall Chief is such a great dog. He’s pretty darn amazing. I recommend the Doberman Shepard breed! Have a great day:)

Kayah was the easiest dog to train, and was by far the smartest dog I have ever owned. She lived to the age of 16. Absolutely brilliant and well behaved. Words cannot describe what an amazing dog she was. You could leave steak on a coffee table and leave the room and she wouldn't touch it. She never chewed anything or got into garbage. She understood full sentences and was extremely loyal. She had a super friendly personality and never once showed any signs of aggression towards anyone. She never had to be on a leash as she would heal at all times and would never chase anything (without permission). She obeyed emphatically and got along with all other dogs, adults, and children. She was the light of my life and was more human than any other dog I've ever known.

Best dog I ever had (sorry Toby...my first golden retriever). This girl has eyes only for me. She only eats when I'm around to eat with her. She will sit on my feet for HOURS while I finish my computer stuff and jump up at a moment's notice to do ANYTHING. I would CLONE her if I hadn't taken an idiots advice and removed her ability to have children. I plan on finding a nice doberman and a nice shepherd and having plenty of puppies. Every doberman shepherd I have met has been something special. Find one. Make a friend for life. You won't regret it. If you do...give me a call. Pacer was a 10 week old rescue. She has a 6 and a 9 year old in the house so she didn’t have a choice but to be good with kids. She is a barker at everything. Good with other dogs at the dog park except for playful barking at them but on the leash she gets a little protective. She jumps on new people in the house until she is used to them even with every bit of training that we can muster. Annoying but not earth shattering. She can chew but is submissive when scolded. She runs with us a lot. We are ultra marathon runners and bring her on longer and longer runs the older she gets. We were cautious until she was old enough but she now runs 9 miles and is super happy! Trails are better than road as she definitely can go farther. Heat is a big factor. Above 60, she is good for only a couple. Below 60, we haven’t found her limit.

Long puppy stage & lots of patience is needed. Stock up on puppy toys. Lots of separation anxiety if I run to the store. They attach to one person and socialization is so important as puppies. Great with the grandchildren when they visit & the cats we already had. Easily trainable. Great dogs and loyal companions.

He’s a good boy he just bites a lot I know he’s teething so I have a bunch of toys for him .

We brought Sasha home at 3 months from a rescue in south Florida. The hardest part was her early puppyhood. She chewed up everything: couches, shoes, watches, underwear, toys, and 2 cell phones. We tried to give her as much daily stimulation and play as we could and most of the chewing has subsided. Other than that, she's fantastic. She's a big, happy, goofy, friendly, 100lb lap dog. The two most remarkable things about Sasha are how easy she is to train(potty, tricks, rules) and how gentle she is with our senior cats and feisty three year old. With no correction, she's almost instinctively gentle. We love love love our Sasha

daisy is a very good dog we got her when she was around 5 months. she is shy with strangers but affectionate with her family. she has bad separation anxiety and is sometimes stubborn but learned tricks quickly like sit, shake, down, bed etc.

It's very exciting and full of action

Hes a good boy all around. He gets a little too excited when meeting new people and tends to jump up on them. I try to socialize him to prevent that.

Amazing dog graet with kids and other dogs it's only fight was with a nuts bullmastiff when red was 6 months old yet he still easily ripped a full grown purebred male bullmastiff to pecise in conclusion this was the best dog I ever had by a long shot.

My Joey is a big goof. He is like Tigger - always bouncing around. His older step-sister helps me train him and she loses patience with his puppy behavior almost constantly, but misses him when he's not around. Joey is extremely alert, becoming more assertive and will rush the fence if he detects any motion/sounds outside the yard. Not as bark-ish as my girl doby shepherd but very active and agile. Looking at his feet he will be a big dog. At 18 months he is already 80 pounds, and likely to keep growing. Super affectionate, wants to please but will only take directions from the person he has bonded with and sees as his superior. With me, the mildest raised voice and he submits but only with me. Even at 80 pounds, he still tries to jump in my lap and snuggle with me on my easy chair. My girl will keep my feet warm, but this guy wants to be my blanket. Great dogs.
