Description

Nestled deep in the heart of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Dekkas Rock hosts groups throughout the calendar year. Typically fairly dog-friendly, the surrounding forests and day-use areas have several outdoor regions perfect for enjoying a game of fetch with your canine companion.

Guests can reserve spots in Dekkas Rock up to one year in advance, which means they shouldn't have a hard time finding a plot for their visit. This particular area can accommodate up to sixty individuals, which is reflected in the higher than average daily costs. The group campsite contains eight double-sized picnic tables, two full-sized grilling stations, a family-sized grilling surface, two large fire rings, and four total parking spots. For the comfort of visitors, vault restrooms and drinking water spigots are both located on the site as well.

Hiking is great in Dekkas Rock, with parts of Lake Shasta surrounding the area providing great shoreline views. Mount Shasta can be seen just behind this portion of the lake from the 1-mile Hirz Bay Trail. Guests on foot are warned that, although it's rather short, this trail should only be attempted by experienced hikers who've come prepared for a bit of a challenge. If you'd like to catch the views without the workout, you can also check out the Hirz Mountain Lookout, which offers full 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. Also an attraction here is the Lake Shasta Caverns, located near the Dekkas Rock shoreline. For guests looking to bring Fido along, they should come with a sturdy leash as well as plastic baggies to pick up any dog messes that might occur on the trail.

Due to the California wildfires that have occurred in 2018, this area is currently closed. For up-to-date information regarding hours and dates of operation, make sure to call the park's temporary offices at (530)-275-1587.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
