Affenpinscher Dog Names

In 2013 a little Affenpinscher named Banana Joe made Westminster history as the first of his breed to win first place during the Best In Show round. This was not his first Westminster rodeo, though. In 2011 he won best in the breed and went on to place second in the Toy Breed category. The same thing happened the next year, including the same dog coming out ahead. So in 2013 when he won the Toy Group round and went on to the Best In Show round, the sky was the limit. What is really incredible about his win is that he won against the fan favorite, an Italian Sheepdog named Swagger. At five years old, Joe beat a twenty-month-old ball of fluffy cuteness ten times his size. Winning the right to swagger against a dog named Swagger is such a monkey thing to do.

Why the name Banana Joe? Well, Affenpinschers are The Monkey Terrier and what is a monkey's favorite food? Bananas! Sired by Kyleakin Space Cowboy to Bling Bling V Tani Kazari, his full name is Banana Joe V Tani Kazari which makes it far more formal. When he won the Westminster Dog show, he brought recognition to a very rare breed. That means that a lot of Affenpinscher celebrities will surely pop up, but with extensive wait lists, it may take a while. Because "Joey" is retired now, his internet fame is limited to searches about the show and a few post-show appearances. He even made a cameo in the Broadway revival of the musical "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" at Studio 54. He took over the role normally played by Macaco, held by actress Stephanie J. Block onstage.
