Dog Names Ending in tu

You will be hard-pressed to find many dogs in pop culture with dog names ending in 'tu'. The reality is, it’s not an ordinary dog name ending, meaning you’re going to be one of few with a dog with such a name. That’s not to say you are not making the right decision, but you may struggle to connect your dog’s name to others that are famous.

Fortunately, it’s rare, but it’s not impossible. One dog exists in pop culture called Rontu that made waves in the movie scene, and there is even computer coding on Ubuntu that relates to a dog too. Read all about it below.

Rontu is a wild dog that lives on a tiny island in the 1964 movie Island of the Blue Dolphins. The movie follows Karana and her brother who are left to fend for themselves after Westerners killed their tribe. Before long, Karana’s brother is killed by a pack of wild dogs, leaving her all alone.

The dog that killed her brother ends up showing an interest in Karana, but not to kill her. She finds herself face to face with Rontu on several occasions, but she doesn’t trust him. The name she gives the wild dog, Rontu, is a testament to that statement.

“Your eyes are like those of a fox. And, as I don’t trust a sly fox, I do not trust you either, dog. That would be a good name for you. I will call you Rontu. It means fox eyes.”

As Karana is all alone, she begins to realize there are a lot of dangers on her tiny island. Before long, Rontu becomes a form of protection, helping her to survive desolation and isolation. The pair become friends.

Rontu’s role in the film is quite extraordinary, but as a dog actor, there are a lot of interesting facts surrounding him. Junior played the role of Rontu and formed a close bond with Karana, played by Celia Milius. Even when Celia was not involved in filming, Junior would not let her out of his sight. What’s more, Junior is the son of Spike, the famous dog that played Old Yeller.

While Ubuntu is not so much a dog as a computer operating system, its name relates to a form of coding for a dog. The Ubuntu dog is a coding system involving the command line utility for the sheep daemon. The dog is also a sheepdog storage system for QEMU which provides block level storage volumes for virtual machines. The server daemon is called sheep, but the command line utility is available for Ubuntu via dog.
