Named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor the Belgian Malinois K-9 hero had unique charm and abilities. Even though he has passed, the memory of his power, talent, and good deeds lives on. Thor was a famed police dog in the city of Antioch in California, USA. His partner, Officer Matthew Harger, had him from the age of 7 weeks old until Thor's death in 2014. Members of the Police and Working K-9 Foundation fondly remember working side by side with the industrious dog. Strapped up in his custom-fitted bulletproof vest, he took to the streets with his fellow police in order to ensure the bad guys were out of the picture. Thor had many adventures in his career and was responsible for hundreds of arrests, successful narcotics searches, and more. With these successes also come some harrowing incidents, such as being run over by a car and being shot. Through the good and the bad, Thor's short but exciting life managed to impact the safety and security of the community he loved.

One of the most famous exploits in his decade-long career involved a burglary. In 2010, while the theft was in progress in the household, Thor arrived at the scene of the crime to apprehend the suspect. He was shot in action but despite the serious wound, still did his job of holding down the suspect for arrest. Not only did he complete his mission, he also recovered from the gunshot and immediately went back on the field. This dedication was not fueled by salary or treats, but Thor simply wanted to do his job right. He was an invaluable part not only of the police force, but also his community. Thor received a Purple Heart Award for his courageous acts in the name of justice.

From 2002 to 2012, Thor was a brave member of the police force and ensured the safety of many citizens. His patrol may be over, but he inspired humans and dogs alike, and showed that the pursuit of justice and truth was worth the trials. We salute his legacy and the number of lives he saved!
