Dog Names that Start with Ig

Igor is a popular dog name, especially in the police department. In fact, there have been over a dozen K-9 cops named Igor in the past few decades, and most of them were German Shepherds. This Igor, a 65-pound Belgian German Shepherd who is two and a half years old, started working with the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 and proved his skills in his interview by finding a bag of marijuana stashed in the trunk of a patrol car. He landed that job right away. 

Igor was trained in Belgium and only speaks Dutch, so his partner had to be fluent in Dutch. His partner, Deputy Jeff Sanow is fluent in many languages, and he was able to teach Igor English as well. This beautiful pooch is not only trained in narcotics detection but also in obedience, article recovery, tracking, building search, and criminal apprehension. His partner, Sanow, claims that Igor can do the work of three officers and is the perfect deterrent to dangerous and violent individuals. 

For example, when Sanow and Igor pull up to a scene and get out of the vehicle, things automatically calm down. Sanow noticed that even the most outspoken criminals quiet down when they see a police dog walking up to them. Nobody wishes to be on the wrong side of a strong German Shepherd who is trained in apprehending criminals. However, Igor and Sanow also like to do meet and greets with the public by visiting schools and doing demonstrations to let people get to know them. 

Igor has a specially designed kennel-type area in the back of Sanow’s squad car that has its own climate controls for extreme temperatures and a remote control that allows Sanow to open the door of the car from a distance to let Igor out if needed. The pooch lives with Sanow, and they are always on call, being the only K9 at the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office. 

Another K9 officer, this one a Belgian Malinois, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont who is also an expert at finding narcotics, is also named Igor. His partner and best friend, Trooper Thompson, has had Igor since he was one year old and they work and live together, living a normal home life when not on duty. Thompson stated that he and his pooch were immediate friends since the day they met and while they are strictly official at work, at home they like to watch television and play fetch. 

However, Igor is specially trained in both hand and voice directions, passive and aggressive communication, and will even watch Thompson from the back of the car to determine whether he is needed or not the whole time Thompson is outside the vehicle on a traffic stop. Igor the K9 cop is an incredible asset to the public and helps the community stay safe by apprehending criminals and finding drugs and explosives.
