Harrier Dog Names

The Harrier is not an overly popular breed and most people are not sure what they are when seen. However, they are beginning to gain a little recognition through the hard work of breeders such as Blythmoor Harriers in Oregon. In fact, Grand Champion Blythmoors Perchance to Dream TDU, or Yahtze for short, is a prime example of genetic excellence and quality conformation.  Yahtze has won reserve winners bitch at the Harrier Club of America (HCA) regional specialty in 2015. She also finished her first championship at the HCA regional specialty in 2016. Yahtze returned to the HCA regional specialty in 2017 and won best of opposite sex two days that weekend. Yahtze was thought to be finished in the show ring and retired to the whelping box where she delivered ten healthy puppies. In the summer of 2017, she returned to the show ring and started earning points toward her grand championship. Because Yatzhe was ranked in the top five of her breed, she also earned an invitation to the Westminster Kennel Club’s prestigious show in February of 2018. In 2018, Yahtze has delivered another litter of healthy puppies and gone on to complete her grand championship at that HCA national specialty. She is now working towards her bronze grand championship. Outside of the conformation ring, Yahtze has earned her Tracking Dog Urban (TDU) certification.

Yahtze is not the only one in the family making a name, her brother Chase, or Grand Champion in Bronze Blythmoor Chase Encounter at Shadowmere TD TDU TKN, is also making history. Chase is currently one of only three Harriers to earn their bronze grand championships. He is the only Harrier that has earned his bronze grand championship while being completely owner-handled. Just like his sister, Chase is also genetically sound and has excellent conformation. In 2018, Chase won best of breed at the HCA national specialty. He has also won a reserve owner handled best in show. Chase has also won best of breed and hound group this year. Chase earned his first championship in 2016 by winning best of breed over three champion dogs and then went on to win the hound group and receive the top honor of best in show at the Cascade Hound Association shows. In 2017, Chase was the number one Harrier, the number two owner-handled Harrier, and the number one grand champion Harrier. Aside from the conformation ring, Chase also competes in Agility and Tracking.
