Zara is a common Kurdish name that both a Kurdish Turkish and Russian singer share. The name is Arabic and can even be a diminutive of Zaharina in Bulgarian. Even though it’s a Kurdish name, Zara is also a Golden Retriever who loves to swim. Zara hit news headlines for swimming across Wellington Harbour, racing the waves. Her owner, Mark Unsworth, says she doesn’t ask, she just swims. He always has to make sure he doesn’t park his vehicle too close to bodies of water because, at every opportunity, she’s diving into it.
Zara has been a water baby for as long as Mark can remember. From six months old, she was swimming at least a mile for the fun of it. The cold water is also no problem for Zara. According to Mark, she will swim at any time of the year, and he will get in the water with her in the warmer summer weather. In February 2018, Zara’s water wings took her to new heights. She covered most of Wellington’s inner harbor which stretched from Wellington central business district’s Queen’s Wharf through to Miramar Peninsula and Seatoun.
Mark loves giving Zara every opportunity to swim to her heart’s content. He encourages her to try new swimming areas, but will not take her anywhere with unpredictable tides, too much seaweed, or hidden undertows. While most dogs will paddle around the shore or laze on the sand, Zara is showing them up. Mark says that while dogs crowd the beaches, Zara is 100 meters out, paddling around checking out the fish and jellyfish. She also shows interest in the ducks and shags but is never quick enough to get to them.
Zara has now gained quite a name for herself, with locals and tourists alike stopping to take pictures of the Retriever, and meet her in person. Many people also watch her swim, as if it’s a mesmerizing thing to watch. It’s clear to see that Zara shares not only a common Kurdish name but the same strength and the adventurous streak of many Kurdish people as well.
Kurdish Dog Name Considerations
When you start thinking of Kurdish dog names, the selection will overwhelm you. Almost any word or name in Kurdish can end up being an excellent dog name, especially if you live somewhere where the majority do not speak Kurdish. Even a simple word like 'dog' can end up being ideal as a name. It translates to ‘Seh.’
