Loud Dog Names

Lassie was a fictional dog that was always getting people out of trouble. She was played by a Rough Collie in many different films from 1943 to 1951 and then played in the series, Lassie, from 1954 until 1973. Lassie was a very intelligent dog that played the heroine in every episode. Lassie barked often, usually just to warn someone of something or to get her favorite humans, Jeff, Timmy, Paul, and Ruth Martin. 

The mishaps of Lassie’s master, Timmy, was what created such heroism in this wonderful dog. It seems like the boy was always doing something dangerous like climbing trees, playing with wild animals, and falling off cliffs or into abandoned mine shafts. But, that is not what started the story of this iconic dog. According to Lassie’s official website, Lassie Come Home was a short story in the Saturday Evening Post in 1938 and was turned into a novel in 1940 because of the story’s popularity. In 1943, a film called Lassie Come Home was made by MGM, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Roddy Mc Dowell. 

From 1947 to 1950, there was a radio show which became extremely popular. The television show, Lassie, began in 1954 and won two Emmy Awards for the show in 1955 and 1956. In fact, the show became the longest-running American primetime television series in history. She became so popular that she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. She was the first animal ever to get a star here. Still well-known today, Lassie celebrated 75 years of fame in 2013. 

Today, the Lassie Dog Company represents the Lassie in every dog and strives to help every dog find the hero or heroine inside of them. Lassie not only has her own website but she also has a Facebook page, Twitter profile, she is on Pinterest, and her Instagram hashtag is #everydogisahero. She has also been on many different news programs such as the Today Show and the Tonight Show. Lassie Dog Company also hosts adoption weekends all year long around the world in the mission to save all strays. The heroine is also the ambassador of Save the Children and Best Friends Animal Society.  

Although Lassie was played by many different Rough Collies over the years, she was still Lassie to everyone who saw her and Lassie was the number one name for female dogs in the United States for many years. In fact, it is still in the top 25. Lassie will never be forgotten for all the times she saved Timmy and for all of the other brave things she did in her movies, television shows, and novels.
