Introduction

In the 2018 science fiction thriller movie “Rampage” by Brad Peyton, Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson is a primatologist who has a close friendship with an intelligent silverback gorilla named George. The movie is based on the video game by Midway Games, but there is a lot more to the movie than what you see in the game. An experiment gone wrong turns George and several other critters into huge monster animals that are destroying everything in town. George may be a giant gorilla in the movie “Rampage,” but George the Saint Bernard is a mischievous pooch who wreaks havoc all over town in the 1972 movie by the same name. It stars Marshall Thompson, who plays Jim Paulsen and Trudy Young, who plays Aunt Helga. The movie was so popular that it became a television series in Canada from 1972 to 1973. Zsa Zsa Gabor even had a guest appearance in the series.

The plot of the movie and the series is about the big lovable pooch named George who goes to live with a man in Switzerland who is a pilot. The new dog owner, played by Marshall Thompson, is a happily single bachelor who gets the 250-pound bundle of fluff from his sister after she gets married for the fourth time.

However, Jim and George do not hit it off right away, and Jim is at his wit’s end when George causes trouble with the neighbors as well as the authorities with his playfulness. In fact, George causes so much trouble that Jim gives him to a monastery because he cannot deal with him. But George escapes the first night and gets lost in the snowy mountains. In the end, Jim realizes that he loves George and goes to find him.

Another famous dog named George is the Great Dane who played Marmaduke in the 2010 movie by the same name. The large poochie weighs over 160 pounds and is voiced by superstar Owen Wilson. Marmaduke meets a Collie named Jezebel that he develops a crush on and she asks him to save her from her mean boyfriend, Bosco the Beauceron and his two Miniature Pinscher buddies, Thunder and Lightning. Although Marmaduke loves Jezebel, he does not want to fight Bosco and chooses to outsmart him instead.

With help from his feline friend, Carlos, he tricks Bosco and makes himself look good in order to impress Jezebel. Marmaduke gets some advice from his friend, Mazie (who has a secret crush on him), about getting a girl who she assumes is herself. But she later discovers that Marmaduke was referring to Jezebel when she sees them out on a date that she suggested.

In a strange turn of events, Marmaduke gets lost and Mazie and Marmaduke’s owners find him but Mazie falls into a rainwater conduit. Marmaduke jumps in to save her, but he gets into trouble himself and when the firefighters rescue Mazie, they cannot get to Marmaduke. Luckily, one of his owners save him and, in the end, Marmaduke realizes that he loves Mazie instead of Jezebel, who was just using him to make Bosco jealous.
