Dog Names that Start with Fi

Canines have the ability to show unconditional love, companionship, and loyalty.  There are hundreds if not thousands of stories found in books, magazines, newspapers, in films and online which tell of incredible bravery and courage displayed by a variety of canines down through history in quite a spectrum of activities involving their relationships to human masters and families.  You don't have to look far to find the most unbelievable and stunning acts of loyalty which result from the relationships built between man and his dog.  Our pop culture spotlight for today is Fido, a mixed-breed Italian street dog who embodies devotion that we all wish we could find in human relationships.  

Fido was born probably in 1940 or 1941 in the Tuscan area of Italy, near Florence.  When he was still a pup, he met his forever best friend while laying along the street, injured and unwanted.  Carlo Soriani, a brick kiln worker who lived in a municipality in the Tuscan province of Florence, Italy, called Borgo San Lorenzo, was coming home from the factory in which he worked one evening in November 1941.  Upon getting off the bus, he heard a small yelp which caused him to investigate.  He found a little pup, injured and alone, lying along the side of the road, yelping in pain.  Sympathy for the wounded animal moved Carlo to bring the dog home, where he and his wife nursed and loved him back to health.  Since they did not know to whom the dog belonged, they adopted him and gave him the name of "Fido," which means "faithful" in Italian.  Fido and Carlo bonded immediately, and after Fido healed enough, he began to follow Carlo everywhere he went, including walking alongside Carlo to the bus stop every day.  After seeing that his master was safely abroad the bus, Fido would wait patiently every day in the community square. He would sit and watch and sniff the air until he sensed the return of his beloved master on the bus.  

On December 30, 1943, disaster struck Fido's life, though he didn't realize it until later.  There was an unusually severe air raid on Italy that day and factories hit, with many people inside killed.  Carlo was one of those unfortunate casualties of war.  On that day, Fido stood at his post waiting patiently for Carlo to return on the bus.  But he never came home, not that day, or the next or the one after that.  Fido continued his vigil at the bus stop for fourteen years until he died.  Honored by the community, his statue stands in the community square.  Fido patiently waited for fourteen years, and finally, in 1958 he finally was reunited with his beloved master, Carlo.
