Spooky Buddies Inspired Dog Names

The film Spooky Buddies is the fifth installment from the Air Buddies franchise. Like all the other films from this series, this movie focuses on the five Buddies and their adventures in their small town of Fernfield. This time, the movie is set during Halloween and features a horror theme. Aside from the usual five Golden Retriever puppies, new canine characters are introduced to the audience. One of the more prominent characters is Pip, the ghost Beagle who aids the Buddies throughout the movie. His character is a nod to Casper the Friendly Ghost.

The film starts in 1937, where Sherriff Jim and the other townspeople of Fernfield are making their way to the manor owned by Warwick the Warlock. This is because Warwick has dognapped five puppies, which he will sacrifice to an evil hound (known as the Halloween Hound) in exchange for opening a portal to ghosts. Pip, owned by a young boy named Joseph, managed to escape while his siblings were consumed by the hound. Pip gets caught by the Warlock just as the angry mob enters the manor. Just as Warwick escapes, the hound fails to kill Pip and he instead becomes a ghost who is trapped inside the manor.

72 years since this incident, the Buddies and their respective owners head off to Warwick’s manor on a school trip. During the trip, they encounter the gravedigger, Mr. Johnston, who they find scary. They also overhear an urban legend where if you say “Halloween Hound” three times in the mirror, you will release his soul. Being branded as a coward, B-Dawg wants to overcome remove his “scaredy cat” image by trying out this legend but is warned by Pip, who appears as a ghost, and tells them to not go through with it. Shocked and scared by Pip’s presence, B-Dawg accidentally completes the reciting. Meanwhile, Billy decides to do his History project about Warwick the Warlock and, after asking for help from Sheriff Dan, gets Warwick’s spell book and staff.

Unbeknownst to them, the souls of Warwick and the Halloween Hound have been released in the manor. Warwick commands the Hound to search for the Buddies. The Buddies also befriend Zelda, a sorceress dog and Pip, who warns them about the coming of the Hound. After terrorizing the neighborhood, Warwick was able to capture the pups as hostages. Luckily, the Buddies were able to escape and beat the Hound and Warwick. Billy then retrieves the staff and reads a spell to send the Hound and Warwick back into the portal. Mr. Johnston then destroys the staff so that they could no longer return. Revealed to be Joseph, Mr. Johnston reunites with Pip and the Buddies go home with their respective owners.
